WELCOME LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL

Esteemed Prospective Participants,

It is with a great sense of pride and exuberant joy that I extend to you the warmest of welcomes, from the sunny Caribbean, where we are blessed with an eternal summer to the first ever edition of Dominican Republic International Model United Nations (DRIMUN) 2020!

As a seasoned MUNer, I can speak candidly about the personal growth that Model UN has been able to instill in me—and that is precisely what we expect you to experience throughout the course of your participation in this conference. Although it is of paramount importance to understand parliamentary procedure and the inner workings of the United Nations, it is our most sincere hope that you develop skills including, but not limited, to public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking. These are skills that are useful in life, regardless of whatever course yours may take.

As you delve into this conference we hope you come out a more informed and purposeful individual. In this first edition, we will be having a virtual simulation where you will be tackling international and galactic problems divided in five different and unique committees. These committees range from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees covering topics recommended by the actual organization, to the Assembly of Space Giants where delegates will attempt to colonize the Moon. More information regarding the committees and topics can be found on our website.

With that said, it is wonderful to know that in spite of the current situation, there are others out there brave enough to participate in this conference. I do really hope, delegates, as one wise man once said, that throughout the course of this conference and beyond you are able to continuously “feed your soul, not your ego”. I am extremely excited to meet you in December! Feel free to contact me for any questions, concerns or suggestions you might have at fabianfid02@gmail.com.

Yours sincerely,

Fabián Fidalgo

Secretary General of DRIMUN 2020
